How the Lord Feels About Us Loving Him and Loving Others
A. LOVING GOD
-Matt 22:34-40
>34After Jesus had made the Sadducees look foolish, the Pharisees heard about it and got together. 35One of them was an expert in the Jewish Law. So he tried to test Jesus by asking, 36“Teacher, what is the most important commandment in the Law?”
37Jesus answered:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. 38This is the first and most important commandment. 39The second most important commandment is like this one. And it is, “Love others as much as you love yourself.” 40All the Law of Moses and the Books of the Prophets [a] are based on these two commandments
-There was 613 laws
-out of all the laws and the ten commandments
>the greatest commandment
>we need to love the Lord with all of our hearts
>we also need to love our neighbors
-the most important thing in life is to LOVE God
>it is so easy to say we love God
>sometimes hard to follow through with what we say
-If God asked us if we were loving him, would we be able to say YES?
>God wants us to be loving him
^Am I loving Him?
*my answer to this question would be yes that I am loving him.
-Two things are important in life
>building a relationship with God
>loving God
-If God asked us, how do we love hm?
>can you completely answer this question
>How do you love God?
^I love God by:
*trying to build up my relationship with hm
*praying (talking) with him
*serving him
-What are we consuming our lives with?
>when we start really loving God is when we get rid whatever is consuming our lives
-Ways to love God
>reading our bible
>meditating on hisWORD
>praying to him
-God wants all of us to love him
B. LOVING OTHERS
-John 21:15-17
>15When Jesus and his disciples had finished eating, he asked, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than the others do?” [a] Simon Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, you know I do!”
”Then feed my lambs,” Jesus said.
16Jesus asked a second time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter answered, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you!”
”Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus told him.
17Jesus asked a third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus had asked him three times if he loved him. So he told Jesus, “Lord, you know everything. You know I love you.”
Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep.
-God asked Peter if he loved him
>God wanted Peter to love hm by loving and serving others
-Maybe we should give up (fast) from something to love God MORE this week
-If we just try to love God it will chang our lives
-may we discover how we give love, and take that into loving God more
-The way to spell love is TIME
>show God love by spending time with him
As I have come home and have dove in deeper to today’s message, I have realized that I am one of those people who tells God I love him but I feel as I don’t always show it by spending time with him. Maybe this week I can do better about turning off the TV, and doing what I should and wanted to do all along. Maybe I will try not even turning the TV on.
